There are always visionaries especially when it comes to retailing….think about the “Pet Rock” from the 70’s or the run up to the iPod or iPhone…..all were very effective in selling a product.  But I recently read about an absolute genius in retailing…….

A business-savvy Girl Scout in San Francisco had to call for back-up cookies just 45 minutes after setting up shop in an inspired location: outside a medical marijuana clinic. In two hours on Monday, 13-year-old Danielle Lei sold 117 boxes of cookies to customers who may have been expecting to have the munchies. Her mother, who accompanied her and asked the Green Cross clinic for permission, says that’s dozens more boxes than she managed to sell outside a Safeway in an identical time period the next day. “It’s no secret that cannabis is a powerful appetite stimulant, so we knew this would be a very beneficial endeavor for the girls,” a Green Cross worker tells Mashable. “It’s all about location, and what better place to sell Girl Scout cookies than outside a medical cannabis collective?” Indeed; Danielle will reportedly be back with more cookies tomorrow. A Girl Scouts of Northern California spokeswoman says the organization has no problem with sales outside any legitimate business. In Colorado, however, where pot has been fully legalized, Girl Scouts are banned from selling cookies outside marijuana outlets or liquor stores, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

A 117 boxes in 45 minutes!………I thought I was a genius back in the day when I sold tuna sandwiches to “Dead Heads” for $5 a pop….but this young lady has my admiration……any thoughts on this young lady?

I recently saw an ad on the tube put on by Vote Vet…it is all about the explosive devices that the troops face in the ME and then they say the if oil goes up $1 then Iran gets another $1.5 billion to use on developing more explosives to use against out troops…..this is an ad to promote an alt energy plan for the US…..the problem I have with this is that the US gets NO direct oil from Iran and if we develop a program that we do not need ME oil it still will not make the troops safer…they will still get their money and they will still develop deadly devices to be used on our troops…..

Another ad for the tube has doctors doing nimble gymnastics as they approach a patient and the voice over says that Doctors are the real heroes…..the problem I have with this one is that heroes are people to do a thing without thought of how it benefits them…..I have met NO doctors that fit into that category…..they became doctors for no reason only….THE MONEY!

I know it is just Marketing……but the point it is our whole lives we are lied to on every side…..politicians….salesmen…..media…..everyone lies to everyone…….this is the society that we have created……full of illusion and fecal matter…….

Obama Introduces Himself To The Public

With the stinging comment that he is just another elitist, Obama and his Boyz are trying to re-introduce him to the voters.

Obama’s early maneuvers suggest a clear understanding within the campaign of his strengths and weaknesses. He bought air time in 18 states, a sure sign that he hopes to expand Democrats’ traditional electoral map. He opted out of the public campaign-financing system — revealing his determination to press his financial advantage, even at the cost of handing his Republican opponent the opportunity to raise questions about the sincerity of his rhetoric on reform.

And with a first ad that delves into his biography, Obama acknowledged ongoing concerns among his advisers that voters do not know whether he shares the values and beliefs of ordinary Americans, a potentially critical vulnerability. The ad speaks to the reality that enough questions were raised about Obama through the long nomination battle that he needs to address them. The campaign’s concerns include both taking on misinformation — such as the persistent claim that he is Muslim when he is in fact a Christian — and framing a biography unlike that of any nominee in the modern era.

Even as the campaign seeks to take control of Obama’s image, hammering home the message that his is a thoroughly American story, the decision last week to opt out of the public financing system — and forgoing more than $84 million in campaign funds — added a new dimension to his profile as a politician. And it appeared to immediately cut both ways. Sen. John McCain pounced on the decision, questioning Obama’s character. “He has completely reversed himself and gone back, not on his word to me, but the commitment he made to the American people,” McCain told reporters Thursday, citing Obama’s initial pledge to stay within the existing campaign finance rules.

Actually, Obama is just making sure that everyone knows who he is and is desperately trying to head off any “business as usual” tags that may come along. This shows that you can “sell” a candidate to the people, regardless of issues.

Gays Could Be Big Business

A California Supreme Court ruling on Wednesday clears the way for gay marriage ceremonies that could bring a business windfall to San Francisco and other cities starting this month.

“The economic impacts will be huge,” said David Paisley, a senior projects manager at Community Marketing Inc.

Estimates suggest that gay weddings will pump $684 million into the California economy in three years, said Lee Badgett, research director of the Institute on Sexual Orientation, Law & Public Policy at the University of California, Los Angeles.

“I think you’re going to see tens of thousands of couples and their families descend on San Francisco,” Mayor Gavin Newsom said. “People are looking at this as an opportunity to come and support their families, their partners and also the city’s economy.

Strategies for wooing the market include a “Marriage For All” campaign to coincide with the Gay Pride Parade, which will fill city streets with more than 1 million spectators in late June.

Headlines have already caused a spike in traffic at Gayweddings.com, which helps users find gay-friendly vendors and resources, said company president Kathryn Hamm. In May, traffic on its vendor’s page was up 38 percent over last year.

Joie de Vivre, a boutique hotel company with 37 facilities in California, is planning honeymoon packages that will appeal to gay clients.

Chasing this opportunity capitalizes on two trends — destination weddings and gay tourism, a lucrative market because same-sex couples often share two paychecks without children, leaving more disposable income for travel and luxury, Paisley said.

Another reason to push the marketing now is that gay marriage may not be legal for long. In November, California voters will decide whether to amend the state constitution to limit marriage to unions between a man and a woman.
