Shades Of COINTELPRO–#BlackLivesMatter

Ferguson is once again in the news…..of course there is the inevitable mentions of those darn “outside agitators”……..after the report DOJ things are starting to tighten up around the doings in the city……protestors are once again making the news…..and that is where this post will begin…..

If you are a regular visitor then you have heard me mention the government program from the 60’s and 70’s…..COINTELPRO……a little history that I was apart of in my youth.

In case you are new or too young to know of such a governmental program….I can help with that also……….

Between 1956 and 1971, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a campaign of domestic counterintelligence. The agency’s Domestic Intelligence Division did more than simply spy on U.S. citizens and their organizations; its ultimate goal was to disrupt, discredit, and destroy certain political groups. The division’s operations were formally known within the bureau as COINTELPRO (the Counterintelligence Program). The brainchild of former FBI director j. edgar hoover, the first COINTELPRO campaign targeted the U.S. Communist party in the mid-1950s. More organizations came under attack in the 1960s. FBI agents worked to subvert Civil Rights groups, radical organizations, and white supremacists. COINTELPRO existed primarily because of Director Hoover’s extreme politics and ended only when he feared its exposure by his critics. A public uproar followed revelations in the news media in the early 1970s, and congressional hearings criticized COINTELPRO campaigns in 1976.

Slowly the program slipped from the headlines and was thought to be put to rest…..but was it?  Or was it re-flagged as some other program with some ‘patriotic’ sounding acronym?

Fast forward to today…….back in the Summer when so many were being killed by the police a group started up to lead the protests….#BlackLivesMatter.  It seems that the FBI has a special interests in this group……..

Members of an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force tracked the time and location of a Black Lives Matter protest last December at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, email obtained by The Intercept shows.

Activists had planned the protest at the mall to call attention to police brutality against African Americans. “Our system disproportionately targets, profiles and kills black men and women, that’s what we are here talking about,” organizer Michael McDowell told a reporter at the time. “We wanted to show people who have the everyday luxury of just living their lives that they need to be aware of this, too.”

Seems the FBI cannot resist the temptation to spy on dissent……Dear Protestors:  Keep an eye on your 6…….they are watching!

The Creeping Cancer Known As Inequality

As we speak, the divide between rich and poor is widening. mainly because the middle class is disappearing into the clutches of poverty…..

New studies reveal that the social divide between rich and poor in the US has grown much starker in the current economic crisis, and that even before it hit the country was the most unequal of the advanced economies, with great wealth and extreme poverty having become virtually hereditary conditions.

President Barack Obama has done nothing to reverse decades of wage stagnation, mounting poverty, and attacks on the social welfare system. On the contrary, following George W. Bush, he has seized on the crisis to redistribute wealth to a tiny financial elite through the ongoing bailout of the finance industry.

This demonstrates a fundamental political reality: no reform that benefits the broad masses can come from a government and two-party system so openly in the clutches of Wall Street. The financial aristocracy’s grip over all the levers of state power must be broken.

The sharp polarization that reveals itself in fabulous wealth for a handful, on the one hand, and unemployment, wage cuts, homelessness and hunger for broad layers of working people on the other, marks an intensification of longer-term trends.

According to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), “While many middle-income families have lost jobs, homes, and retirement savings during the latest recession, their economic woes date back much further.” In the 30 years before 2008—the onset of the current crisis—nearly 35 percent of total income growth in the US was cornered by the top one-tenth of 1 percent of income earners. The bottom 90 percent shared only 15.9 percent of income growth in the same period.

The vast polarization of wealth in the US will only intensify. According to the Obama administration’s rosy economic estimates, unemployment will not return to its pre-crash levels before the end of the decade. More realistic observers, however, acknowledge that mass unemployment will be a fixture of US life, and higher-paying jobs destroyed in the recession will never return. Combined with declining home values, skyrocketing health care and higher education costs, chronically high unemployment will result in steadily rising poverty.

Obama defends these obscene pay packages. “I, like most of the American people, don’t begrudge people success or wealth,” he said of the eight-figure rewards for the same financial executives whose firms have benefited from trillions in taxpayer support. “That is part of the free-market system.”

In fact “most of the American people” not only begrudge these ill-gotten gains. They wonder why they have yet to see news footage of bankers and traders arrested and hauled from their plush offices. Now working class anger is becoming increasingly trained on the political system, which, as a year’s experience with the Obama administration has taught, does the bidding of Wall Street regardless of which party controls the White House and Congress.

I would like to thank Tom Eley of wsws.org for excerpts in this piece….

All the news is that the middle clkass is taking it in the butt…..while the wealthy (which is normal) get all the benefits and the bailouts…….as a reader of my blog, Terrant of My Corner To Vent (go to blogroll to get there) has observed that the US is starting to look a lot like Latin America where the middle class is small or non-existent……of course this means nothing to you if you are one of the wealthy……but the middle class needs to find someone, anyone that will watch their backs for them….Washington is NO help at all….

The Pubic Option

Nope that is not a typo!

Yep I said P-U-B-I-C option……..NO I did not mean public option……

Do I have everyone’s attention…I assume so since sex posts seem to get the most traffic on some blogs…..then I shall explain myself…..

The health debate has been raging for months…..lots of slinging of innuendos, misinformation and out right lies has come to the point where the inevitable was predicted….abortion…..the health debate has come to symbolize a woman’s vagina and seemingly has NOTHING to do with the people and adequate health care…it is all about the government intrusion into a person’s pubic region.

You have one of the yellow dogs, Stupak that threw an anti-abortion amendment into the House bill….and it has support within the Democratic Party.  Evewn thought the party stands for a woman’s right to decide what is to been done with her pubic area.

This is becoming a tired and lame argument to stall any legislation…..according to the law it is NOT illegal for a woman to chooce what to do with her vagina and yet there are some mental midgets that want to dictate to a woman what is to be done with her pubic and that she NOT be given an Option to choose.  The people that emphasize the pro-life program are the same people that does not want the government to dictate anything to them that it is their choice…..like owning a gun….but yet they have no problem interjecting themselves into a woman’s rights.

Hey dipsticks!  We cannot legislate morality!  While I do not approve of abortion…it is a personal decision that is to be made by the woman that has the vagina…it is none of anyone’s business but hers….. and hers alone. To dictate to this woman is to violate the Constitution, but if that is their decision then I say let us start looking at guns……

Maybe I should have titled this post….The Pubic War!
