Restore Religious Myths

As a political historian I find this whole affair a worthless waste of time and an affront to the Constitution and DoI.

Yesterday Donny plans to prayer vigil on the National Mall as part of the 250th celebration it’s aim is to restore religious fervor….

The Trump administration plans to stage a nine-hour prayer event on the National Mall on Sunday that organizers describe as a bid to “rededicate” the US to its Christian foundations. They’re using public money set aside for the nation’s 250th anniversary, the Washington Post reports. Billed as Rededicate 250: National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving, the gathering is being run through Freedom 250, a public-private partnership created by the White House. Although the announcement talks of unity, the program is dominated by Protestant speakers. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and House Speaker Mike Johnson are scheduled to speak. President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are sending recorded messages.

Religious historians say the scope and tone of the event stand out from presidential observances that have typically featured broad, nonsectarian invocations. Of the 15 faith leaders listed as participating, 14 are Christian, including seven evangelical leaders and two Catholics, per USA Today. The only non-Christian religious leader listed is Orthodox Jewish Rabbi Meir Soloveichik. Amanda Tyler of the Baptist group BJC argued that the administration is promoting a false notion of the US as officially Christian and blurring church-state lines. Supporters, including Regent University scholar Mark David Hall, likened the jubilee to a Thanksgiving proclamation and emphasize that participation is voluntary.

The event also will also showcase what organizers call a Freedom Truck, one of six mobile exhibits using material from conservative groups PragerU and Hillsdale College to promote a “pro-American, Judeo-Christian” story of the founding. “This is really an affront to the American religious community,” said the Rev. Paul Raushenbush, CEO of the Interfaith Alliance. “They are using an event like this, which could be the opportunity to showcase the incredible diversity of American religious life, which is so rich and beautiful and powerful … to rewrite American history.” Gates open at 9am, with music, military bands, and speeches continuing until 6pm.

Basically I think this is BS from a panty waste of a leader.

Thousands gathered on the National Mall in Washington on Sunday for “Rededicate 250,” a massive 8-hour prayer rally blending worship music, patriotic imagery, political figures and prominent Christian leaders in an event supporters described as spiritual renewal and critics viewed as another step toward the normalization of Christian nationalism in American politics.

The event, tied to upcoming celebrations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary, featured speakers repeatedly invoking themes about restoring America’s “Christian roots” and reaffirming the United States as “One Nation Under God.” Organizers, called Freedom 250, framed the gathering as a national rededication of the country to God through prayer, worship and public faith.

https://www.salon.com/2026/05/17/christian-nationalists-pray-for-a-return-to-americas-christian-roots/

As a political historian I find this whole movement to be utterly ridiculous.

After 250 years of a religious freedom Donny and his worthless christian nationalists are trying to make this country something it was never intended to be.

Those who insist that America was founded as a Christian nation run roughshod over the historical record. They use the words of the Founding Fathers to support Republican jeremiads on the moral decay of American life. If only this country could return to its Christian roots, they say nostalgically, everything would be okay.

And how do they demonstrate that America was founded as a Christian nation? By selectively choosing texts from the writings of the Founders without any effort to explore them in the context of the 18th-century world in which they were written. Just because John Adams and George Washington quoted from the Bible or made reference to God does not mean that they were trying to construct a Christian nation. Granted, the Founding Fathers were the products of a Christian culture, but most of them were never comfortable with the beliefs that defined this culture. Very few of them would qualify for membership in today’s evangelical churches.

The idea the this nation was founded on christian beliefs is a myth….more info for you….

https://www.au.org/about-au/history/is-america-a-christian-nation/

The Founders thought that government should be secular….not favoring one religious belief over any others….and that is where it should stay.

It is that simple and Donny and the Band of Toads are trying to make it more complex than that….with the use of lies and more lies.

America should stay the secular nation it has alwasys been….PERIOD!

FYI: The Dark Web

It is Friday and I would like to end the week with some FYI.

Disclaimer:  I am by no means pushing the Dark Web on my readers this post is purely intended to be FYI.

I am sure that most anyone that uses a computer has heard of the Dark Web….but how many really know what it is unless you are a massive computer nerd?

The dark web isn’t something you can just stumble upon, and that’s a good thing. Although it’s often used for transactions and conversations that need to remain anonymous, sites on the dark web can host illegal activity, phishing links, financial scams, and malware. There’s also little to no recourse to be had if you encounter any trouble there, because the dark web is a decentralized collection of websites hidden from search engines. In short, it’s not for the faint of heart, and it’s definitely not a viable alternative to the clear web.

Even in an era of increased online surveillance, the average person on the internet likely has too much to lose to bet on their safety for curiosity’s sake. Heck, I’m one of PCMag’s resident security experts, and I’m not playing around on the dark web just because I know how to. That’s why I’m not going to provide links or detailed instructions for accessing the internet’s shadier side. That said, what you choose to do with your time and devices is solely your business (for now). I will help you understand the risks you face when exploring the dark web and offer you some suggestions for safer browsing.

To understand what the dark web is, let’s examine the onion-like layers of the internet:

Within the deep web is the dark web. As I mentioned above, the dark web is a decentralized, non-indexed network of web pages, and the sites don’t use standard URLs. The dark web is home to some horrible stuff; think illegal porn and snuff films, along with illicit activity in the form of financial scams, personal data sales, and other anonymous and illegal transactions. There are marketplaces where people can sell stolen credit card numbers, conduct illegal drug transactions, and scam people out of their cash and crypto.

There’s legitimate activity on the dark web, too, as activists, journalists, and whistleblowers use dark web forums for anonymous communication. These forums look similar to those on the clear web, but the content discussed and shared by the anonymous chatters can evade censorship and surveillance on public sites. The problem is that getting to those forums may expose you to safety concerns like those listed above.

https://www.pcmag.com/explainers/i-went-into-dark-web-so-you-dont-have-to-heres-whats-down-there

A very informative article.

To reiterate I do not condone nor encourage the Dark Web at all….this is purely for FYI…..

Political Monies

A blogging friend Nan of https://sayitnow.wordpress.com/ recently wrote about her thoughts on political contributions….

Political Contributions

I thought I would continue somewhat on her thoughts.

Personally I think that there is too much cash political elections….and apparently I am not alone….

A significant majority of Americans agree that there is too much money in the US political system and that the super rich have more influence over election outcomes than ordinary citizens, a poll published by Politico on Saturday found.

The poll comes after outside spending in the 2024 election broke records, with richest-man-alive Elon Musk pouring over $250 million into President Donald Trump’s campaign.

According to the poll, 72% of Americans agree that there is too much money in politics, while only 5% disagree. There is broad partisan consensus on this issue, with 80% of 2024 Kamala Harris voters and 77% of 2024 Trump voters also agreeing.

At the same time, 61% think that billionaires have too much influence on US politics. There was a larger partisan gap on this issue, with 75% of Harris voters and 55% of Trump voters agreeing

A total of 67% of respondents think that there is too much special interest money specifically in elections, and 53% see it as a form of corruption that should be restricted. There is also bipartisan support for the idea that special interest money is corruption, with 61% of Harris voters and 56% of Trump voters backing this position.

There is slightly more concern about money in politics from Democratic voters, with 49% of 2024 Harris voters stating it could outright buy elections compared with 33% of Trump voters.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/too-much-money-in-politics

It has been this way for far too long….it is time to stop bitching about and do something is my advice to the Dems in Congress.

The sad part is that they are just as empowered by all this cash as the Repubs….so there will be very little interest in turning a new leaf….there will always be something more important that they have to deal with on their limited agenda.

I am not saying to do not contribute but the money should go into a fund and be divided evenly among candidates….all candidates….this would help eliminate some of the special interests influence.

This will not solve the problem completely but it could help lessen the effect of all that cash.

Thoughts would be nice.

That Marvelous ‘Golden Dome’

Let’s take a break from Donny’s clusterf**k with Iran and move on to his less than brilliant idea of the Golden Dome.

Golden Dome is Donny’s version of the budget busting program proposed by Reagan, the Strate4gic Defense Initiative (Star Wars)….and guess what Donny’s ‘brilliant’ idea is a budget buster as well….to the tune of $1 trillion….a far cry from the bullshit Donny said but then why would he ever tell the truth?

President Trump’s plan to put weapons in space—pitched as a “Golden Dome for America” missile defense program—is estimated to cost $1.2 trillion over a 20-year period, according to a new analysis from the Congressional Budget Office, a far heftier sum than the initial $175 billion price tag he gave last year. The nonpartisan CBO report, published Tuesday, is described as an analysis that reflects “one illustrative approach rather than an estimate of a specific Administration proposal,” the AP reports.

  • The futuristic system was ordered by Trump in an executive order during his first week in office. He said then that he expected the system to be “fully operational before the end of my term,” which wraps up in January 2029.
  • “Over the past 40 years, rather than lessening, the threat from next-generation strategic weapons has become more intense and complex with the development by peer and near-peer adversaries of next-generation delivery systems,” Trump said in his executive order, justifying the need for the missile defense system.
  • The CBO’s estimates are in part based on a lack of details from the Defense Department about what and how many systems will be deployed, “making it impossible to estimate the long term cost” of the Golden Dome system, the report says.
  • The concept for the missile system is at least partly inspired by Israel’s multitiered defenses, often referred to as the “Iron Dome,” which played a key role in defending it from rocket and missile fire from Iran and allied militant groups as it prosecutes the war on Iran alongside the US.
  • The US Golden Dome is envisioned to include ground and space-based capabilities able to detect, intercept, and stop missiles at all major stages of a potential attack. Congress has already approved roughly $24 billion for the missile defense initiative through Republicans’ massive tax and spending measure signed into law last summer.
  • Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley, who requested the estimate from the CBO, said in response to the report that the missile defense project is “nothing more than a massive giveaway to defense contractors paid for entirely by working Americans.”
  • Last May, the president said the Golden Dome would cost $175 billion. The CBO last year estimated that just the space-based components of the Golden Dome could cost as much as $542 billion over the next 20 years.

This will be on the backs of taxpayers like everything else Donny does….we get stuck for his bullshit ideas.

There is some concern that all that cash spent maybe in vain….

Even under generous technical assumptions, the viability challenges facing Golden Dome are severe. When it comes to reliably defending the United States against peer and near-peer intercontinental nuclear threats, those challenges are effectively insurmountable. They include the number of interceptors required to reliably defend the United States, with some estimates suggesting ratios as high as 1,600 interceptors for every incoming missile; the ability of adversaries to deploy countermeasures designed to defeat missile defenses; and the risk that a nuclear detonation in the atmosphere or in space could significantly degrade or disable the system’s ability to track and intercept additional threats.  As a budget watchdog, one of our guiding principles at Taxpayers for Common Sense is, “if it doesn’t work, don’t fund it.” The evidence presented in this report strongly suggests that Golden Dome will not work.

Just another one of Donny’s lame ass ideas to waste taxpayer money….and people, taxpayers, still support this clown…..why?

Just trying to keep an eye on what our half-ass government will do with the taxes we all pay.

Be Afraid….Be Very Afraid

It is common knowledge that I have no use for AI…I prefer to do my own thinking….I am be an old fart but my brain still works.

AI is being used for everything these days from customer service to….well whatever the brain can imagine….and that is where I pick up with this report….

Mass-shooting “research” isn’t supposed to end with an AI cheerfully saying, “That’s a great idea … It’ll definitely give you an extra edge for the big day.” But that’s what Mother Jones reporter Mark Follman says he got from ChatGPT. In a 20-minute test on April 14 using a free account, Follman asked ChatGPT to help him develop a two-week training schedule with an AR-15—then got more ominous, asking that the schedule be modified to help him prep him for “unpredictable or chaotic circumstances on the day of the shooting” and to include “simulating people running around screaming and trying to distract me.”

“To be clear, I never stated directly to the chatbot during this simulation that I planned to commit murder—many mass shooters, after all, take steps to conceal their intent,” writes Follman. “But I came awfully close.” Follman writes that he debated whether to make his chats public, as doing so “could even create a kind of roadmap for a person seeking to do harm.” Be he decided that since anyone could use ChatGPT as he did, it was worth making clear the risks that persist despite OpenAI’s claims to have put safeguards in place. (OpenAI declined his request to be interviewed for the piece.)

Follman did run into some blocks. At one point he had to create a new account, and some of his queries were dead ends met with replies that the chatbot was “here to help with general safety and responsible practices.” A leading threat-assessment expert who reviewed Follman’s logs called the results “very disturbing,” noting that the language used when the bot’s safeguards kicked in wouldn’t speak to “a vulnerable person in this situation … We know from decades of case investigations that you need to ask … about what’s wrong, to show attention and care, and at the right moment to message things like, ‘Tell someone—an adult—that you are having these thoughts.'”

I know AI can be used for good or bad….but with society being what it is today….bad would be their first choice.

Why Is This Strait So Damn Important?

I write this for those that are casual observers of thew international world….there are many that feel this is just too much and why is our little Donny being such a twat about it.

The Strait of Hormuz By The numbers…..

Iran’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz has jolted the world economy, causing a spike in fuel prices that has rippled through other sectors with effects far beyond the Middle East. Iran effectively seized control of the critical waterway after the US and Israel attacked it on Feb. 28. Weeks of heavy bombing and a US naval blockade imposed last month have yet to loosen its grip, reports the AP. Iran says it will only reopen the strait if the war ends and the blockade is lifted. President Trump is seeking wider concessions, including the rollback of Iran’s disputed nuclear program. A look at the strait by the numbers:

  • 21 miles: This is the width of the Strait of Hormuz, which bends like an elbow, at its narrowest point between Iran and Oman. Ships follow narrow lanes to safely navigate the shallow water, making it even more of a chokepoint.
  • 20%: Before the war, a fifth of the world’s traded oil typically flowed through the Strait of Hormuz every day, as well as large supplies of natural gas, fertilizer, and other petroleum products.
  • 100-130: The number of ships that passed through the Strait each day before the war began, including oil tankers and cargo ships, according to research firm Lloyd’s List Intelligence.
  • 534: The number of ships that are believed to have passed through the strait since the start of hostilities through Monday, according to Lloyd’s List Intelligence. Many are believed to have carried Iranian oil. In normal times, an estimated 6,500 to 8,450 ships would have transited the Strait during the same period.
  • 50%: The amount that the average price of gas in the US has risen since the war began. The average price of a gallon was $4.56 on Thursday, according to AAA. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has also nearly doubled the cost of jet fuel.
  • Up to 10%: Insurance rates for ships have skyrocketed from 1% of the ship’s goods up to as much as 10%, according to shipping experts.
  • 45 million: The number of people who could experience hunger, mostly in Asia and Africa, if Strait does not open soon, according to the UN World Food Program. The blocking of fuel and fertilizer shipments could soon push the price of food and other necessities out of reach for those already in a precarious situation, it said.
  • 10: The number of mariners who have been killed since the Iran war began, according to the UN’s International Maritime Organization.
  • 32: The number of ships that have come under attack, according to the International Maritime Organization.
  • 1,550: The number of vessels, from 87 countries, currently stranded in the Persian Gulf, according to the US military.
  • 22,500: The number of mariners stranded on these ships, including many from South and Southeast Asia.
  • 15,000: The number of US soldiers, accompanied by 100 aircraft, committed to enforce Project Freedom, according to the US military. Trump’s initiative to guide ships through the strait was paused on Tuesday, just two days after he announced it.
  • 2: The number of ships that the US said it successfully guided through the strait as part of Project Freedom.

As you can see the Strait is a super important cog in world trade….

Does that answer ant questions you may have had?

Then the US should do all they can to punish Iran, right?

It may not be as simple as that infantile approach…..why?

US spy agencies see Iran holding out significantly longer under President Trump’s naval chokehold than the White House is signaling, reports the Washington Post. A CIA analysis concludes Iran could withstand the blockade for about three to four months—and potentially more—before hitting a far steeper economic cliff, according to four Post sources familiar with the document. It also finds that Iran’s missile forces remain largely intact: Roughly three-quarters of its mobile launchers and about 70% of its prewar missile stockpiles are believed to have survived US and Israeli strikes.

Trump has described Iran’s missile stockpile as “mostly decimated,” and the White House has said Iran is being “strangled economically” by the US blockade. The CIA analysis, however, suggests greater Tehran resiliency for a number of reasons, including the use of overland routes for oil. It also suggests Iran retains thousands of attack drones that could continue to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. If all goes well, the assessment could be moot soon: Iran is expected to respond to a new US peace plan that could result in the end of the war.

So without a valid ceasefire things will get worse for the consumer….I said valid….not some vague promise that does nothing but keep the billionaires rolling in dough.

This quote explains everything you need to know about Donny and his promises….

“We are 9 weeks into a 4 week war that we won 8 weeks ago”

Political Hacks Are Butt Hurt

I make no bones about it that I think that SCOTUS is nothing more than a group of political hacks that are doing partisan work and in the process destroying what is left of this nation.

Then and when you need confirmation of their partisan crap Chief Justice had to go and whine about our perception of the court.

Chief Justice John Roberts wants Americans to know he doesn’t see the Supreme Court the way some critics might. Speaking Wednesday at a legal conference in Hershey, Pa., Roberts said many people wrongly believe the justices are “political actors” choosing outcomes based on policy preferences rather than legal analysis, NBC News reports. “I think they view us as truly political actors, which I don’t think is an accurate understanding of what we do,” he said. He was responding to a question about what the public most misunderstands regarding the high court, Politico reports.

Roberts, part of the court’s 6-3 conservative majority that has shifted federal law rightward on issues including abortion, guns, and voting rights, didn’t address any specific cases. But he stressed that the court is often obligated to hand down decisions that are disliked, saying rulings are “based on our best effort to figure out what the Constitution means and how it applies.” He acknowledged that the public is free to criticize the court’s work, while urging that critiques target decisions, not individual judges, warning personal attacks are “not appropriate” and can lead to “very serious problems,” especially amid heightened security concerns. He also did not mention President Trump, who himself has been among critics of the court at times, CNN reports.

Seriously?

This POS is saying this crap without laughing?

Our criticism can lead to ‘very serious problems’?  Really thanx to the Roberts court we already ass deep in serious problems and they can thank themselves for all the problems…..Citizens United, abortion rulings, education rulings, allowing insider trading by politicians, gutted voting rights etc etc….

Roberts and his happy band of hacks have turned the court into a partisan political arm of government.

I have no sympathy for Roberts and his fragile feelings.

If he wants us to stop hating them then I propose he and his partisan dipsticks retire to Mar-A-Lago and let the country move forward for with them it will stand still and then start in reverse.

Any thoughts?

Celebrate 250 Years

The Hill has put together a list of the events that will be celebrating our 250th birthday….I include them here on IST in case anyone wants to join in the celebration….

All this begins tomorrow….

May 7 – Alexander Hamilton Monument Rededication

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will host a rededication ceremony for the Alexander Hamilton Monument, which has undergone a restoration process.

The bronze statue was first dedicated in May 1923 and installed outside of the U.S. Treasury Building, right around the corner from the White House.

“Fittingly, the White House has been loaned a portrait of former Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton and the ‘sea letter’ signed by both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson in honor of America’s 250th birthday,” an event bio on the organizing committee’s website said.

Sea letters were required national identification documents for ships in the 18th and 19th centuries. The 1794 document signed by Washington and Jefferson authorized the travel of a vessel involved in the slave trade from New York to Trinidad, according to the Library of Congress.

May 17 – Rededicate 250  (of course that fake christian had to inject his brand of bullshit into this celebration)

America’s 250th planning committee is hosting a prayer event on the National Mall, featuring a speech from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Hegseth is outspoken about his Christian faith, and he recently faced controversy after he drew a comparison between the media and a Bible passage.

“Join Americans from every state to give thanks for 250 years, pray for the future, and rededicate our nation as One Nation under God,” the committee said in an event flyer shared on social media.

Other speakers include former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson and President Trump-aligned Catholic Bishop Robert Barron. In addition to these speeches, the event will feature religious songs and storytelling.

(skip this one for it has nothing to do with the establishing of the usa)

May 24 – America 250 Family BBQ and Cookout

The Defense Department is encouraging all overseas installations to host cookout events at the end of May to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.

The department asked these military bases to invite U.S. expatriates and local communities to engage in the events on May 24.

(This one has all the earmarks of a political rally not something to celebrate the founding principles)

May 25 – Memorial Day National Observance

The planning committee is coordinating a “solemn, reverent and unified” day to commemorate the sacrifices of fallen U.S. soldiers on Memorial Day.

In addition to events taking place across the country on this day of remembrance, a national ceremony will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery’s Memorial Amphitheater at noon May 25.

This will celebrate the fallen not the founding)

there iks much more faux celebrations that will be opportunities to lambast opponents of Donny and his band of idiots.

June 3 – Fish Fry

The Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will host its annual Fish Fry.

The event has been held for more than 40 years, typically in June, with hiatuses in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It usually attracts more than 1,000 people and is held at the department’s Herbert C. Hoover Building in Washington, D.C., according to a 2020 press release.

The Fish Fry is reserved for guests of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, congressional members and Commerce Department staff. This year’s event will feature Freedom 250 decorations and a “Made in the USA” theme, according to the planning committee’s website.

June 25 – The Great American State Fair

The National Mall will serve as the grounds for the “Great American State Fair” from June 25 to July 10.

Each day of the 16-day event will center around a different theme, like military and veterans’ appreciation and health and well-being. The fair will showcase culture from federal agencies and America’s 56 states and territories.

The planning committee advertised Wyoming dust roping, CHamoru dancing from Guam, and an Arizona desert experience.

Additionally, Education Secretary Linda McMahon issued a call for original art submissions from students across the country for a chance to win a trip to Washington and have their artwork featured at the event.

Students in grades 3-12 are encouraged to share art they created inspired by historical figures featured in the National Garden of American heroes. A winner will be selected from each state, and the deadline to submit artwork is May 1.

July 4 – Independence Day Celebrations

The Department of Interior will host Independence Day celebrations on the National Mall in the nation’s capital, as well as across the U.S. in places like Mount Rushmore, Gateway Arch National Park, Grand Coulee Dam, and Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

Additionally, the grand opening for former President Theodore Roosevelt’s library in Medora, N.D., is set on America’s 250th birthday. The event will feature a drone light performance on the evening of July 4.

The presidential center will pay homage to the 26th commander in chief’s “frontier spirit” and legacy as a conservationist. Tickets for the opening ceremony have sold out, but people interested in visiting the library are encouraged to plan their trips for later this summer.

The world’s largest peacetime armada, featuring tall ships and naval vessels from more than 30 nations, will also sail into New York Harbor on July 4. The event will include a parade, naval review, fireworks and festivals near the statue of Lady Liberty.

August 21 – IndyCar Street Race

The Department of Transportation is coordinating the first-ever street race in the nation’s capital later this summer with IndyCar.

The 1.7-mile course released by the motor racing organization last month loops around several historic sites on the mall in Washington, including the National Archives, National Gallery of Art and Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.

Trump, an avid fan of motor racing, announced the race in an executive order earlier this year to “showcase the majesty of our great city as drivers navigate a track around our iconic national monuments in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.”

Fall 2026 – Patriot Games National Competition

The inaugural “Patriot Games” is scheduled to be held some time this fall. The four-day event will feature two high school athletes — one boy and one girl — from each U.S. state and territory.

Trump announced the “unprecedented four-day athletic event” last December.

Social media users and some Democrats have drawn unfavorable comparisons between the event and “The Hunger Games,” a fictional bloody competition from the eponymous dystopian book series.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5848096-what-to-know-about-events-marking-americas-250th/

Every one of these has nothing to do with the founding of this wonderful country and everything to do with the shoddy and tacky mind of a deranged psychopath, Donny.

Nothing about the events that brought this country to the forefront of the planet as the ‘beacon of freedom’.

Even the event on the 4th sounds more like a tacky Donny reality show than a celebration.

This is all so much bovine fecal matter.

Enough said!
