Syrian Immigration: Where’s The Outrage?

New Congress has begun to work(?)…….the most worthless collection of people on the planet…..

One of the pressing issues that consumed the airways in the year 2014 was that of immigration.  There was much debate and lots of yelling and even more accusations……

The GOP was absolutely livid about the steps and measures the president took to solve part of the problem…….and those measures sent the Right wing into stroke mode….and according to them the “end of days” was approaching…..

I regurgitate all this because there was a story that got absolutely NO coverage in the media and even less on the Right……

US Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration Anne Richard says the United States will dramatically increase the number of Syrian refugees allowed to resettle permanently in the United States from about 350 this year to close to 10,000 annually as the crisis grinds on into its fifth year.

After initial vetting by UNHCR, Syrian refugees who want to resettle in the United States must be interviewed by officers of the Department of Homeland Security at US diplomatic facilities in Amman, Jordan or Istanbul, Turkey. That leaves out a million Syrians who have fled to Lebanon and large populations in Iraq and Egypt. Richard said lack of space and security concerns have kept the United States from interviewing Syrian refugees at the US Embassy in Beirut but that US officials are looking at the possibility of setting up a refugee vetting operation in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq.

Asked how many of those referred would be accepted, Richard said, “I think most” because they are likely to meet the United State’s definition of a refugee as someone fleeing persecution or threats because of race, ethnicity, religion, political beliefs or membership to a particular social group.

Refugees must also pass medical and security checks. “The last part has been tricky in the past,” Richard said, but added that it is not likely to be a major problem with the Syrians referred by UNHCR. She said she expected them to comprise mostly widows with children, the elderly and people with medical conditions. “It will be fairly clear that they are not terrorists bent on harming Americans,” she said.

I am surprised that the Right did not take advantage of this news……they could have painted all those refugees as some sort of AQ sleeper or worse…..

I guess we will see when those refugees find a home here in the US……

  1. I’m pretty sure there are those blogs in cyberville where some angry white guy is railing against the notion that more foreign brown people will be entering this country, diminishing their sense of some “white power” superiority here. The NRA alone will raise this hateful specter just to keep guns sales up.

    1. Larry, I have been trying to keep an eye on this story but most of them are concerned about Paris and Ferguson and the like…..maybe when they start showing up there will be an outrage….

      1. I do appreciate the kind words….and I am still waiting for the right-tards to go batcrap crazy……will they ever notice?

      2. And if FOX will get off the emails thing and find something else to bitch about and make a major problem……

      3. FOX is a commercial enterprise and depends on advertising money to maintain it’s bottom line — as long as the e-mail thing sells ad space they will be on it — and who can blame them? It’s just good business.

      4. Yep and that is why I do what I do……news and analysis should not be a money making enterprise……we all are bloggers with a purpose and we should be commended for standing by our convictions….no matter which side we fall on…..
