Another Disturbing Story

My last day of mental freedom……but I really want to get back to the world….there is so much happening that events are changing quicker than a teenager in the back seat……..

I recently wrote a post about a company that was making bullet proof blankets to be used in schools to protect teachers and students…..I found that a bit disturbing that we would even have to consider such measures to protect our children in schools……and then I saw another disturbing story along these lines……..

For a while, a Colombian clothes designer named Miguel Caballero seemed to be the only player in what seemed to be a extremely niche segment of the market—bullet-proof clothes that were stylish to boot. No more, reports Fox News. The industry is growing beyond South America, and a slew of companies in the US and elsewhere are hoping to cash in. One industry estimate has the “global body armor and personal protection market” rising from $2.4 billion last year to $3.7 billion in 2023. Think snazzy shirts, jackets, and vests that can stop a bullet.

“Throughout the decade, there has been a global exponential increase in civilian awareness regarding terrorism or ‘of the sort’ violence,” says the president of New York armor wear company Doo Aquino. “Wearing stylish body armor has caught on not only in the US, but around the world.” But expect to shell out. A Virginia company called Aspetto tells the Wire that one of its custom-made bullet-proof suits costs up to $5,000. And if you happen to get shot? “You should get a new suit,” says a company exec. The clothes are designed to take multiple shots, but repeat performances aren’t advised. Fox also takes note of another burgeoning market: Some 8 million Americans now have permits to carry concealed handguns, and they need clothes to make sure the “concealed” part holds true. (The general trend already has reached the school-age set in the form of bullet-proof backpacks and clothes.)

It is the 21st century….you would think that some other problem would be more pressing than the worry about being killed by gun violence…..

Sad that someone can make a profit off of having to protect one’s self or one’s children from gun violence……..just damn sad.

Any thoughts?

  1. I am assuming that these bullet-proof clothes include covering and protection for the face, mouth and eyes because if they don’t they are defeating their intended purpose. Furthermore I wonder if someone is now thinking of producing bullet-proof under garments? How long is the shelf-life of one of these suits and how do they operate where air conditioning might be needed? I am assuming that some fool is now developing a body-suit-piercing round of ammunition to meet the challenge? How crazy can crazy become before it can be certified as irreparably insane?

    1. john, the underwear is a great idea…..that is marketable……my problem is that it is just sick that we would rather invent bullet-proof clothing instead of doing something about the amount guns on the street…..this country needs to get a grip…..chuq

      1. I believe the number of crazies is somewhere under the 2% mark if memory serves me right – – and there are varying degrees to be contended with – – some are harmless as fleas taking a sight-seeing cruise on the underside of a bird and some are as dangerous as snakes under the covers of someone’s bed. What the country really needs to do is outlaw the right wing – – especialy that part of the right wing that persists in being seditious and treasonous. But I am not holding my breath on that one.

      2. Have you noticed that the right wing will not acknowledge the situation….the will go on about everything but the post…..

      3. Selective Retention/Selective Attention/Selective Memory/Robotrons idiotologically-conditioned to respond to one stimulus and one stimulus only – – Right Wing Bull Hockey!

      4. It is truly pathetic that we cannot have a substantive conversation on guns and violence without it leading to off topic BS……so sad

  2. We need a better mental health system. The only people that will be made to give up their guns are on the most are the ones that are registered.
What about all the gangs, I am sure they are not registered. Our open borders are a major flaw in stoping the flow of guns. We know now that our border are not secure at all no matter who tells us they are.
You start taking guns from legal owners, you will cause those to buy guns on the black market. We don’t want more unregistered guns.

  3. I do see that as a problem. You will need to ask a mother of a child that was shot or killed, if she would she have bought something like this knowing it could save her child? Not everyone lives in a bucolic area.

      1. I would pay for this type of clothing to save my family and you would too. We will never be safe from gun violence. Just think how many guns there are in the hands of gangs? How do you get the guns from these people?

      2. What about the militias? How many gang members go on multi person killing sprees? Even if the gangs lose all their guns it will not stop the violence.

yes i would buy the clothing for my family…my point is why should I have to consider it?

      3. Include the militias. You have to consider it because you know that this problem will never be solved.

      4. A man applying at a Brooklyn iron shop today was denied the job—and his reaction was to open fire, police sources and witnesses tell the New York Post. The unidentified man pulled a gun out of his bag around 11am, a C&A Iron Works employee says, and immediately shot another worker. Other workers didn’t realize at first what was going on—”We work with steel, so there are loud bangs all the time,” one explains—and the suspect is believed to have fired at least eight shots in 10 minutes. Few details are available; according to WABC, the suspect is still barricaded inside the shop, but is not believed to have any hostages.

This guy was not a gang member….and stuff like this is way too common…..at what point is there enough?

      5. Was his gun registered and how was he mentally? Was he out of work for a long period? What would law would you put in place to stop these acts? What about personal guards? This isn’t easy.
We will never reach that point? Never! We will be living like this for a very long time. Whenever anyone talks about gun control, people go out and buy more guns. It will be a never ending problem. Everyday we see and hear these stories and the stupid will follow suit. You can’t cure stupid!

      6. this happens almost daily….are they all mentally ill….if so then this country is in real trouble….

      7. If you look at the legal drugs that are given to teens, it is easy to see that mentally illness is thriving. I know I’m not, I’m not so sure about you! LOL

      8. the only mental problem I have is trying to understand how so many think on different subjects….sometimes not too logical….
