Mitt wins Arizona and Michigan….really Santorum lost Michigan…if he would have said with the blue collar argument that he has made in the past we would have won, in my opinion…I would bet that women were the deal killer for Rick…….
I was listening to a couple of pundits discuss the primaries in Michigan and Arizona….they were predicting the winner and by how much and they were talking about the consequences of the outcomes and I got to thinking about that also……..what if Romney won the nomination or if Santorum wins what would be the direction of the party going forward.
This is just stuff that has been running around my head as I contemplate the 2012 election…..let’s say mitt wins the nomination and after a hard fought campaign he loses to Obama in November…how will that effect the GOP? My thought is that if the so-called moderate of the party could not win then the possibility that the party will take an even harder turn to the right trying to find that balancing point that could lead them to the White House…..IMO, this would be the worst thing that could happen to the party for the next generation.
Now the best thing that could happen to the GOP. Santorum wins a difficult fight for the nomination and after a dirty campaign from both sides he is defeated by Obama…….How would this effect the party? I think that with a loss using a far right candidate the party would then come to their senses and start trying to find and work on a winning strategy by pulling it self back to the conservative ideals that has worked in the past to elect Repubs to the White House……it would give them the incentive to start governing and cease all the divisive issues and work on plans that will give the country a fighting chance…..
I think that no matter who wins the nomination of the GOP it will change the party…….it could be for the better…..or it could be for the worse…….I realize that it will take more than one election for the system to change into a better system….but we have to start somewhere…….
Since not many Americans realize what is going on in Syria I have decided to do what I did with the Libya situation and post a series of the under-reported stories coming out of the region……
I realize that more American were worried about the Oscars than what is happening in Syria……but while they were watching millionaires strut their stuff…..the war drums were beating a little louder…..
I have listened to all the pundits on what needs to be done about Syria……from arming rebels to “no fly zone” to sending troops…..not many on the right are saying diplomatic channels would be in the US best interests….they seem to relish the idea of direct confrontation with Assad……looks like these are the same people that were positive that there were WMDs in Iraq….they were wrong then, they are wrong now!
Regardless of what I believe there is a report of Syrian possible WMDs ……(here we go again)…….
This week, the State Department sent a diplomatic demarche to Syria’s neighbors Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia, warning them about the possibility of Syria’s WMDs crossing their borders and offering U.S. government help in dealing with the problem, three Obama administration officials confirmed to The Cable. For concerned parties both inside and outside the U.S. government, the demarche signifies that the United States is increasingly developing plans to deal with the dangers of a post-Assad Syria — while simultaneously highlighting the lack of planning for how to directly bring about Assad’s downfall.
Syria is believed to have a substantial chemical weapons program, which includes mustard gas and sophisticated nerve agents, such as sarin gas, as well as biological weapons. Syria has also refused IAEA requests to make available facilities that were part of its nuclear weapons program and may still be in operation.
WMDs….they were part of the rhetoric in the 90′s and a major part of the rhetoric in the early days of the 21st century…all i can say is to reiterate what I just wrote….here we go again!
And there are other reports that point to the US becoming more involved in the Syrian situation than we are told……..
The Pentagon is readying for the possibility of intervention in Syria, aiming to halt Syrian President Bashsar Assad‘s violent crackdown on protesters, the newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported Saturday, citing a US military offical.
According to the official, the intervention scenario calls for the establishment of a buffer zone on the Turkish border, in order to receive Syrian refugees. The Red Cross would then provide the civilians humanitarian aid, before NATO crews would arrive from Turkey and join the efforts.
The measure would pave the way for the US to declare an aerial blockade on Syria.
The intercession is to be modeled after NATO’s efforts in Kosovo, which brought an end to the Serbian control of the region. NATO’s plan of action included prolonged aerial shelling.
It looks like Americans are ramping up the rhetoric and the backstreet actions to get us more involved…..if so who are we trying to impress with these actions?
Seldom does any of these actions go well and we may well be involved in the overthrow of yet another Arabic country…..I want to know who we are trying to appease with these actions? These type of actions the backdoor tactics and lies have gotten many Americans killed and were done to appease one faction or another…..will America be drawn into yet another stupid decision that will be the death of more our troops?
You tell me!
We have all heard and seen all about the violent protests going on in Afghanistan over the burning of the Korans…..many people have been injured and many have been killed…….everybody has apologized for the incident from generals to ambassador to secretary of state to the president….and this brings me to the point…..
I have heard several pundits on a conserv channel condemning the president for his apology and the so called frontrunners for the GOP nomination have nationally condemned the president and basically have said that it is “much to do about nothing”……
I have a problem with this political rhetoric……would say Santorum be so blase if the Afghans had burned a bunch of bibles and religious artifacts….or Romney had been so nonchalant if the Book of Mormon had been destroyed?
It is at this point that I start losing ALL respect for these people and their so-called religious standings….these guys are NO more a good christian than I am a jet pilot…..they show an intolerance that they condemn in others….that makes these people more a hypocrite than a statesman….now would be a good time for these pea brains to explain how their religious beliefs are different than the Islamic fundamentalists that they condemn…..but we both know they will not!
There is another point that needs to be made. It has been called a horrible mistake that the holy books were burned…..I question that statement. Why? Every military person is given an indoctrination about the country they will be deployed to….he culture…the do’s and the don’ts……I would say that they slept through that indoctrination…..if they were ordered to burn the books then it is the officer that gave that order that should be made an example of…….After 10 yrs of service in the country there should be a well defined set of handling procedures of the Koran….if thee is not then every person involved in leading Americans in this country needs to be replaced by more competent personnel….
While it is inexcusable for people to be killing other people over something that was admittedly a mistake, a horrible mistake……there is someone to blame for this and that person should be found and made n example……if not a general or other officer then this dude Cocker should be recalled and discipline for it his job that Americans are as safe as possible and making sure that the troops are damn well aware of the cultural aspects are droned into their heads.
Today is the latest primary contests…Michigan and Arizona….two things are or certain….one, fundamental extremism is alive and well and second, the GOP faithful are torn between two lovers……
Poor Mitt just cannot catch a break……..when he speaks off script he just keeps reminding people that he has NO idea what a working person has to deal with daily…..and yet….he continues to stomp on his own tongue……
People keep saying that good old Mitt is just NOT capable of understanding the mere mortals that he is trying to con into voting for him in these primaries….he has made some pretty good gaffs that could reinforce this belief…..his $10,000 bet or he likes firing people or he does not care about poor people or that his wife drives a “couple of Cadillacs”, one in Mass the other in calif and then there is he does not know much about NASCAR but he has some great friends among the owners all of whom are millionaires several times over……
He just keeps talking and just keeps reminding us that he has no way of associating with us peasants……for instance, recently at a speech he seemed to think that $19,000 a year is middle class…….this from politicususa.com……..
Mitt Romney was lecturing Americans on how he can fix this economy and why we should elect him because he knows how to save us all, when he pointed to Staples and The Sports Authority as examples of places where he is going to create jobs for us, while wearing his super hyped face and declaring the US can be “the best place in the world to be middle class again.”
I guess no one told Mr. Romney that jobs in retail are not typically creating middle class families. Does Mitt know what a retail job makes? Maybe if he figured this out, and then tried to pay a mortgage, car insurance and loan, doctors bills, etc. he might get a glimpse as to why Americans really do not want to hear about his four cars and his wife’s two Cadillacs right now. And they really don’t want to be told that their anger over his not getting it is jealousy over his “success”
According to Businsessweek, Retail jobs at Staples and Sports Authority (where they pay on average less than 3 dollars an hour from the national average- good pickings Mitt) make an average of less than $9 an hour (with cashiers making less). This means that someone working a 40 hour week (if they were so lucky which many are not because stores like Wal-Mart keep hours below a certain level in order to block workers from qualifying for certain benefits) is making $19,090, which is below the poverty line for a family of three.
Stuff like this could explain why Santorum is sneaking up on Mitt……..where Rick can talk honestly about being in a coal mining family and the tests they had to face when he was growing up, Mitt cannot…….he was born with that silver spoon and has NEVER lost it at any time in his life.
Will be interesting to see if his handlers (Mitt that is) will put a muzzle on him if he wins Michigan by a close vote or if he loses…..whatever happens he has to find a way to get in touch with the country and feel their pain….so far he has been a massive tool!
The readers know that I have a sharp wit about me….(well, I would like to think so)….We all find humor in different places and news headlines are some of the best places for that humor…you know kinda like Man Bites Dog……or Mom gives birth to litter of 8…..well you get my drift her…..
We all have heard the vile spread by Santorum on homosexuals and fornicators and his views on pregnancies…..but the best headline ever came from Birmingham Alabama a site entitled “Second Front”…..now you tell me this is NOT great headline…..
(Pause here for raucous laughter)…..after drying the tears from my eyes I had to read the rest of the story…..
With Alabama’s March 13 primary looking more and more important, Rick Santorum leads the rest of the Republican field in a poll conducted by Alabama State University. Santorum leads with 28 percent of likely GOP primary voters, while Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney trail with 18.9 percent and 18.3 percent, respectively. Texas Congressman Ron Paul was not included in the poll except for a choice for “other.”
Now I ask…was the wording intentional or just an unfortunate play on words?
The GOP is reeling from the mass of bad PR they have gotten from the candidates unrealistic stances on contraception….so how do you change the subject? GAS PRICES!
Gas prices are going up and up and of course it is election time and the opposition will make it all the president’s fault…..Mitt has promised two dollar a gallon gas when he is elected president….now sports fans….HE IS LYING!
For one, the president has little control over then price of gas……think Exxon at this point……will they give up profit to make Mitt happy? And then there is the promise of more drilling domestically….good plan and it will take at least 5 years for that to take effect and there is NO guarantee that it will lessen the price of gas at US pumps……now at this point think Chevron……will they give up profits because the oil came from the US soil?
Let us not forget about speculation which has more to do with the price of oil than who is president….or who promises something they could NEVER deliver short of nationalization….now there is something to think about….
Could the price of gas come down? Sure when the price of oil does.
But with all that in your head think about something else…..from USAToday:
Looking at your heating bills or gas prices, you may find it surprising that the United States is enjoying a mini oil boom. It’s producing more crude oil and, for the first time in decades, has become a net exporter of petroleum products such as jet fuel, heating oil and gasoline.
The U.S. exported more oil-based fuels than it imported in the first nine months of this year, making it likely that 2011 will be the first time since 1949 that the nation is a net exporter of such goods, primarily diesel.
That’s not all. The U.S. has reversed another decades-long trend. It began producing more crude oil in 2008 than the year before and accelerated that upswing 3% in the first nine months of this year compared with the same period in 2010. That production has helped reduce U.S. imports of crude oil by about 10% since 2006.
Read it! The US has exported more oil than it imported! Could that exported oil be used here in the good old US of A to keep the price of gas down? At this point think Texaco…….profits are the common denominator……profits will lead the way and as long as that is the motivation there will be NO way to bring the price of gas down…..
My last day of quiet time, well mentally at least, and as usual I have found something that is really weird or in this case, just sick…..
You know I have often pondered on just why anyone would watch something as boring as Golf on the tube and then I met a guy that thinks fishing on TV is good entertainment……but back to golf…….I tried it a few years back and know why these people drink beer and ride in carts…it relieves the tedium of the game….but I guess it could be made more interesting…like a public course in my city….it is laid out around and through the city sewage treatment plant…..and it makes it more interesting when you throw in the intense smell and the flies….good fun!
But this I read this story……
A Texas man was impaled with a golf club, allegedly because one group at a Fort Worth golf course was playing too slowly.
Clay Carpenter, 48, suffered massive blood loss and faces the possibility of a leg amputation, after spending nine days in the hospital. He was among a group at the Eagle Mountain Lake course who were apparently trying to pass the golfers in front of them, the Star-Telegram reported.
Cops are investigating the evidence in the case, including an 11-minute 911 call obtained by the paper, in which one of the golfers can be heard screaming at the dispatcher to get a helicopter ambulance because Carpenter was “bleeding profusely” and “he’s about to die.”
It’s still unclear who jammed the iron club into Carpenter’s leg during the melee and who threw the first punch.
MyFox-DFW reported that the fight broke out at about 3:30 p.m. and that Carpenter’s assailant may have swung the club at his head before it broke.
During the 911 call, the other golfers said that Carpenter’s groin was “leaking [blood] like a faucet” and that they had to pinch his femoral artery to stop it from bleeding while paramedics arrived.
What more can be said? The UFC comes to the golf course……God, I love this stuff! I have often thought of ways to make golf more interesting but this never seem to be on the list……
Once again I have had those creeping thoughts that make my notes but seldom make it to posts……feel free to interject anything that you fel should be included….
1–why do men when there hair starts thinning, are afraid of going bald and then shave their heads?
2–Sorry but a shaved head can be pulled off by black guys….white guys look like ugly cue balls.
3–Is it just me or has all this campaigning turned into ‘blah…blah…blah blah’?
4–What ever happened to Naga-Hide and Corinthian leather?
5–Why do politicians bitch about abortion and contraception but are silent on ‘boner’ pills?
6–At what point is a car chase in hillbilly heaven national news?
7–Liberals need to apologize to true progressives for stealing the title.
8–Why does the GOP repeatedly return to the past….has anyone bothered to tell them that this is the 21st century?
Just a few fleeting thoughts…..and I have a plethora of them….I wish I could recall the ones that I neglected to write in my notes……have a good weekend and keep the mind safe from the BS flung at it.
Yes, there is a new alternative to Mitt…..first it was trump then Cain then Perry then Newt and then along came Rick…..and once Rick got his teeth into the fabric of presidential politics he began his right wing extremists rhetoric…..I know this man believes and believes strongly in what he says……and he is popular now and may even beat Romney in Mitt’s’ home state of Michigan or is it Utah…no it is Mass….no I believe it is Michigan…..yeah! It is Michigan! Anyway the GOP seems to looking for anybody but Mitt and some say Rick is that candidate……I think it is wishful thinking. Why? it gonna be a long drawn out process and Rick will not last…..he will not last for 5 reasons (thanx to the Week for the breakdown)….
1. He’ll drown in a sea of Romney’s money
Many pundits believe that Romney can’t take down Santorum with the kind of negative ads he used to annihilate Newt Gingrich, simply because Santorum doesn’t have nearly as many skeletons in his closet as the thrice-married Gingrich does. But “even if he doesn’t go heavily negative,” says Ed Kilgore at The New Republic, “Romney can use his heavy money advantage to saturate the airwaves” with positive ads in Arizona and Michigan, which vote on Feb. 28. That should help Romney stage a comeback in those two states. And if Mitt wins both, “the road gets much rockier for Santorum.”
2. Santorum can’t appeal to mainstream Americans
“Santorum is essentially an ultra-right-wing protest candidate” in what is “essentially a centrist or center-right country,” says John Cassidy at The New Yorker. The audience for “extremist views” always expands some during times of economic distress, which is how the neocons and Tea Partiers managed to burst onto the scene. But it just won’t be enough to make the country at large interested in “supporting a religious zealot and armchair militarist of Santorum’s stripe.” And with the economy improving, “the market for political extremism is shrinking anyway.”
3. Many conservatives still have eyes for Newt
In 2008, Santorum “was fighting to get former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney elected,” says Chuck Norris at WorldNetDaily. It’s still baffling that “an alleged conservative like Santorum would fight for the flip-flopping Massachusetts moderate” when there were real conservatives, like Mike Huckabee, in the race. “How can the ‘alternative to Romney’ also be a Romney supporter?” He can’t. That’s why, for many of us on the Right, Newt Gingrich is still the only true conservative alternative to Romney.
4. Nobody’s endorsing Santorum
Santorum’s victories last week in Missouri, Minnesota, and Colorado have “not resulted in a flood of endorsements from prominent conservatives, or even a trickle,” says Steve Kornacki at Salon. Facing a massive financial disadvantage against Mitt, “it’s critical for Santorum to have loud, influential Republican opinion-shapers making his case and defending him against Romney’s attacks.” Maybe GOP leaders just don’t want Santorum.
5. Swing voters don’t like him — even in his home state
Santorum likes to say he’s the only GOP candidate who “has actually won a swing state.” But six years ago, as a senator seeking a third term, “Santorum proved he can also lose in such a politically competitive state — and lose big,” says Julie Hirschfeld Davis at Bloomberg. Santorum lost his last race in the swing state he calls home by a whopping 18 percentage points. Apparently he’s not as popular with the undecided “Republicans who will determine who gets the party’s nomination,” not to mention the independents who could swing the general election in November.
I know a lot of social conservatives are praying for a Santorum win and finally the nomination….but sorry guys….he will soon be toast…..and believe me…if he is the nominee he will lose and lose badly in the general in November…..
Recently the Prez and his dudes decided to hold off on the SOPA and PIPA….and the peasants danced…..but please do not think it is over…….the only reason it was tabled is because of a little thing called the 2012 election..,…but there is more going on than most realize……
I have warned my readers that SOPA is far from a dead issue and that we have more to worry about than just SOPA………..There is much more to worrying about than who will win American Idiot…..my bad……….American Idol……..
From Activist Post…….
Today, the European Union and 22 member states signed the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. They have now joined the US and seven other nations that signed the treaty last October.
Like PIPA and SOPA, two domestic internet censorship bills that prompted major websites to blacken their name or website in a Jan. 18th protest, ACTA allows accusers of copyright infringement to bypass judicial review. Lack of “due process” makes these bills and ACTA unconstitutional and violates the Magna Carta, a charter signed in 1215 on which most Western law is based, including the US Constitution. It is often cited as the most important legal document in the history of democracy.
(The USA PATRIOT Acts, Obama’s assassination program, and the National Defense Authorization Act that allows indefinite detention are among many recent laws passed in the US which directly breach the Magna Carta.)
We smirk, but things are getting worse……reported in the AP…….
Twitter, a tool of choice for dissidents and activists around the world, found itself the target of global outrage Friday after unveiling plans to allow country-specific censorship of tweets that might break local laws.
It was a stunning role reversal for a youthful company that prides itself in promoting unfettered expression, 140 characters at a time. Twitter insisted its commitment to free speech remains firm, and sought to explain the nuances of its policy, while critics – in a barrage of tweets – proposed a Twitter boycott and demanded that the censorship initiative be scrapped.
“This is very bad news,” tweeted Egyptian activist Mahmoud Salem, who operates under the name Sandmonkey. Later, he wrote, “Is it safe to say that (hash)Twitter is selling us out?”
In China, where activists have embraced Twitter even though it’s blocked inside the country, artist and activist Ai Weiwei tweeted in response to the news: “If Twitter censors, I’ll stop tweeting.”
And for my comrades from the old COINTELPRO days………
The Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) is creating a spy system that will allow it to monitor social media websites, including Facebook and Twitter.FBI analysts are hoping to pick up tips about future terrorist threats by examining “publicly available” material from Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites, as well as national and local television news, including Fox News, CNN and MSNBC. The bureau intends to zero in on keywords relating to terrorism, surveillance operations, online crime and other criminal matters. It also hopes to better “track hurricane paths and timelines for landfall and other natural disasters.”Applicants who believe they can provide the system the FBI is seeking must be able to view tweets in at least 12 languages and translate them into English. They must also have the “Ability to display video feeds from traffic cameras to monitor traffic patterns, obstructions, bottle necks, protestors, and flash mobs.”The Central Intelligence Agency has already been spying on Facebook and Twitter, as well as news outlets, as part of its effort to glean intelligence on upcoming threats or overseas upheaval, such as revolutions, before they begin. Doug Naquin, director of the CIA’s Open Source Center, told the Associated Press that the best analysts are those who, like the heroine of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, know “how to find stuff other people don’t know exists.”
