The Decade After

Unlike the morning after….when you either walk the slut walk or go running hysterically for the drug store looking for that magic pill or the quick trip to the local clinic for that shot for “just in case”….I will look at the last decade…..

Today is the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by those damnable extremists of AQ….it is also  Patriot Day….and every adult knows what happened on 11 September 2001…..a day of infamy or a day of sorrow or a day of ….well you fill in the blank with what you think it was to the psyche of the American people…..but let us look at what has really happened a decade later….and please take the time to remember those that have lost their lives because of the cowardly attacks on the US……..

We, Americans, are engaged in seemingly endless wars….with more being promised by the events unfolding…..We are at a loss of civil liberties like freedom of association, freedom of travel….profiling……our actions in areas Not really involved in the attacks on 9/11 have made the world a less safe place…..gave rise to Iran as a world player in the Middle East and the world….and have given marginalized extremists a reason to move to the forefront…..and become the face of Islam.  We allowed some of our freedoms to be taken from us because of fear….we may NEVER see them returned to us….EVER!

All in all, the attacks, which proved our vulnerability and our reactions after the fact have made the US no more safer than it was on 9/9…..and little we have done as a country after the fact have done anything to make us a safer place to live……

Please understand that I am NOT trying to take anything away from the suffering, the death and the agony that the attacks inflicted on our country and it people…….I just want people to understand what has happened because of the fear and anger that the attacks foisted on us…….

I understand exactly what you are saying, and I couldn’t agree more. We became monsters because of monsters, as the abused child becomes an abuser. And that cycle guarantees nothing except more abuse.

Morning Jolly….I tweeted earlier 9/11 is like Katrina….I lived thru it and I do not need programs or pics or whatever to remind me of the destruction…..we need to move on!

I’ve been thinking a lot of the same thoughts Lobo. 9-11 change a lot of things, and not for the better.

HI Hansi…..I know what you mean.,…stuff like if you pay cash instead of cards….they keep an eye on you……and then there is that damn name “Homeland Security”,,,,that smacks of something I do not like (BTW watch for a post on nationalism….coming soon to a blog near you)

If you hadn’t written your post first, Lobotero, I’d say you stole mine. I literally just published my own 911 story and echoed similar sentiments about the innoncent people that have died since 911 in the War On Terror. Those victims shouldn’t be forgotten either.

  5. Spot on man. We’ve lost a lot since that day.
